The Beginning
Built on Heart
The Fort McMurray Monarchs were founded in 2014 with one mission: bring competitive football to Fort McMurray and give local athletes a place to play at the highest level.
What started as a small group of passionate players became one of the most decorated semi-pro teams in Canada, with national championships in 2016 and 2018 and a place in the Wood Buffalo Hall of Fame.

Our Timeline
The Monarchs Are Born
Fort McMurray Monarchs founded, bringing competitive semi-pro football to Fort McMurray and joining the Alberta Football League.
Finals in Year Two
Just their second season, and the Monarchs were already playing for a title in the AFL finals.
Champions Through the Fire
The squad rallied through the wildfire evacuation to go 11–1 and win the AFL and national championships, lifting the spirits of a rebuilding city.
A Perfect Season
An undefeated 11–0 run and a second national title in a thrilling championship rematch.
Organization of the Year
Recognized as AFL Organization of the Year for the second time.
Hall of Fame
The 2016 and 2018 championship squads were inducted into the Wood Buffalo Hall of Fame as symbols of resilience and athletic dominance.
