The Fort McMurray Monarchs are gearing up for the 2027 Alberta Football League season, and the goal is the same as it has always been: bring the highest level of semi-pro football to Fort McMurray.
A legacy to live up to
Since 2014 the Monarchs have built one of the most decorated programs in Canadian semi-pro football. In 2016 the team rallied through the wildfire evacuation to go 11 and 1 and win the AFL and national championships. In 2018 they ran the table with a perfect 11 and 0 season and a second national title. Both championship squads have since been inducted into the Wood Buffalo Hall of Fame.
Building the 2027 roster
Tryouts are open and every position is up for grabs. Returning players and new faces will compete for a spot, and we welcome experienced players as well as athletes from other sports who want to try football.
Home games at SMS Equipment Stadium
All home games will be played at SMS Equipment Stadium inside MacDonald Island Park. The full schedule with dates, opponents and kickoff times will be posted on our schedule page as soon as it is confirmed.
