The Fort McMurray Monarchs were founded in 2014 to give local athletes a place to compete at the highest level. Over the years the team has become something bigger: a point of pride for the whole city.
Lifting a city in 2016
When the 2016 wildfire forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray, the Monarchs rallied. The team finished the season 11 and 1 and won the AFL and national championships, giving a rebuilding community something to cheer for. That squad, along with the 2018 champions, is now in the Wood Buffalo Hall of Fame.
Game day is a community event
